Stave Churches from Norway

Heddal Stave Church Borgund Stave Church On the left, you see Heddal Stave Church. Heddal stave church is not only a medieval architonic masterpiece, but a living church for todays congregation as well. The church is the largest of the 28 still remaining stavechurches in Norway. It appears to have been some 750 - 1200 stave churches in Norway, but in the 19th century most of them were replaced by new - and more "modern" churches.

On the right, you see Borgund Stave Church. Borgund Stave Church is the best preserved Norwegian medieval stave church. It was built between 1200 and 1250.
